Forget about the Pepsi Challenge and take the Nonviolence Pledge instead.

Greensboro police are offering community members a chance to turn in their weapons and take a pledge of nonviolence on Saturday.

Officers say they have a goal for at least 1,000 people from our area to take the nonviolence pledge. Gun owners will also have the opportunity to turn in unwanted firearms at this event.

I believe this is intended to target a specific group- not everyone. Even though the officer does say he encourages people out in the county to participate.

Last time I heard of one of these "turn ins" most of what they got was worn out and inoperable guns.

Read a news story about this. One knife and one BB pistol were turned in. They did however, get over 1000 to sign the pledge.
