I've noticed that if I have a round in the chamber and use the decocker there is a light primer strike, is this normal for bersa pistols or is there something wrong?
the hammer isn't hitting the back of the firing pin, the block is working correctly but its still hitting the primer, what can I do?

Is your firing pin protruding out of the bolt face?

Hi Gunnut86,

Chamber a round and remove it without decocking and see if the light primer strike shows up. If it does, useing Brakleen brake parts cleaner blow out both ends of the firing pin channel....blow out both ends with compressed air.....lightly spray CLP or whatever lube you use and blow out as much as possible with compressed air. Debris in the firing channel can be the cause or possibly a weak firing pin spring allowing the pin to lightly "bounce" during recoil.

Since this is an older model you may want to consider a new recoil spring and magazine spring....the current production springs from Eagle Imports will work.

Congratulations on your new acquisition. :thumbs up:

no the firing pin is not protruding at all, you can barely see it, as it should be

Thanks Jab its a sweet little pistol, it was barely shot and is almost in new condition for a 50(or right at it) year old gun. I chambered about 15 rounds and removed them without decocking and no primer strike unless I push forward with my grip hand as i let go of the slide but its a lot less noticeable, so I'm assuming that its the firing pin spring.

Try the cleaning regime above first in case there is some debris in the FP channel......If that doesn't work.....

The current firing pin assembly is different than that of your 83

look here for instruction to remove the firing pin and spring on the 383DA which is the same configuration as the 83

I have cleaned the pin and channel but I'm still getting light primer strikes so I'm assuming that I need to replace the spring, will the new springs fit my Bersa or will I need to find an original?

Look here at the Eagle Import site http://www.bersa.com/firing-pin-spring-2.html to compare.

Or, try this trick http://www.bersachat.com/forums/showthread.php?5019-Magazine-spring-rejuvenating-heat-treatment
just stretch it maybe 1/4 inch.
