    primer nicks

I've test fired my new Bersa .40 UC with 50 rounds of Armscor FMJs and I noticed something odd. Aside from just the usual firing pin "punch" to the primers, I observed nicks just beside every firing pin punch to the primers. As what I had observed, it was also caused by the firing pin. Does anybody can help me with this issue? Fortunately, the piece is reliable and accurate. No FTFs and FTEs.

    Re: primer nicks

If you're talking about the teardrop shaped mark the firing pin makes on the primer, that's normal for all Bersa Ultra Compacts and Hi Caps. All of mine do it, too. It's nothing to be concerned about.

Funny, I was "logged out" trying to reply to your comment, Koji

    Glad to have you aboard!

I and so would other members like to see those striker marks on your Bersa 40 S&W.

Do you have the 40 Ultra Compact or 45 High Capacity?

Thanks for your comments, always great to hear other comments outside the USA

Other guns do this too. My Kahr CW40 did it. Well, it probably still does it but it's no longer mine.

So the photo I posted represents a few handguns with the striker "mark" on a Bersa? With every CSI State Dept. the marks could be helpful for a BG that uses a Bersa/FireStorm handgun.

I think what your seeing is what they call primer smear. The way I understand it is that it happens when your slide starts to move to eject the spent case, before the firing pin has had a chance to completely retract.

Not to worry; your Bersa firing pin is a sturdy piece of work and can take any abuse those primers can dish out.

@koji: hi koji, i've asked jethro (festival) about that same primer smear you were talking about. they told me that it was normal.

@bigblue: won't there be a tendency to bend the pin while being simultaneously ejecting and retracting the spent up cartridge?

    Re: primer nicks

If there was a tendency to bend the pin, believe me, we'd be hearing about it every time it happened. I don't remember seeing any reports of bent or broken firing pins in any of the UC/HC models. Did you see the photo I posted of the 9UC firing pin? I repeat myself, but I don't think that pin is going to bend or break.
