    Bersa thunder uc9 issues

Forum we have a problem. I took my wife to the range last night and out of the first box I had 4 FTE. The second box I had 3. There is aproximately 3-400 rounds thru it. What could be the problem?

1st make sure it is clean. 2 what kind of ammo? If you experienced it while using one specific batch or brand of ammo...3 is it possible limp wristing?

Oh and was it with a factory magazine or do you have a second magazine?

It was clean. I clean it after each use. I buy Remington green box 115 g fmj when its on sale. I try not to death grip it not to cause me to pull. It would be nice to compare it to another uc9 to see if its my gun or me. You all rant and rave about them but i don't see it. I am over the sight issue I had before. Now its time to get it to be reliable .

Just for kicks try a second ammo. Some Guns just don't like some manufactures. I had one that choked on Winchester white box but ate everything else for breakfast. I have a .22 that will not shoot Remington to save its life. So I just stopped using them and put them on the shelf to use with a different gun.

Start with a different brand. Federal seems to be a good across the board target ammo for me.

Your UC9 should eat about anything Rich. If you are anywhere near me or anywhere near my travels you can try my 9UC, 9HC or 45 UC and I would be happy to look at yours.

When you say FTE, do you mean extract or eject? If it is failure to extract, make sure you cleaned behind the extractor claw real well with a brush or pipe cleaner. I usually shoot more than one brand of ammo at the range so I don't know, but I've heard that Remington is pretty dirty & could get some build-up under the extractor. If it is failure to eject, just a good firm grip is all that is required, but must keep your wrist stiff. If you are seeing a lot of muzzle flip, that could cause it.

Extract and eject. It gets pulled out by about an eighth of an inch and then gets locked up.

Sounds like the extractor is not getting a good hold on the case rim. Could be because of built-up crud under it, or a very few have reported defective extractors.

How can you tell if it is defective? Is there a close up pic of a good one for me to compare ?

Here's a link to one thread about them. The pic is post #16. This thread is about the HC9, but should work for your UC9 also. The whole thread may be helpful as I believe it is a DIY fix.

Well i found a problem. When i removed the extractor i found a hole in the concave notch thats about 3/8 of an inch long and i can see the firing pin and its spring. Too much metal removed . Crap , time to call Bersa2012-07-21_12-21-42_231.jpg

Make that a call to Eagle and refer them to the picture here. They will likely send you a new slide assembly.

I certainly will. I wonder if there is more problems with the "setup internal " causing the bad performance of the gun ?

The slide will come with everything except the barrel and recoil springs+guide rod. Should be like having a new gun

    Re: Bersa thunder uc9 issues

Ease up on the new slide thing. That hole is normal and isn't causing anything except unnecessary panic.
Look carefully at the thread mitchr referenced and see if the shape of the extractor is goofy, there were a few that got shipped that way.
It's not limp wristing with a UC9. It's not impossible to limp wrist one, but pretty damned close. Nothing like the blowback .380's.

Now here is what catches my attention...

Does the slide stop 1/8th of an inch back and not recoil any further?
Just moves that far and "locks up"?
How locked up is it? Does the shell come right out of the chamber or do you have to tap it out from the muzzle?

A UC9 will actually function without the extractor even there in most cases (so will most guns) just not particularly well. The brass is not ejected well away and it can stovepipe, when it does work the brass usually rolls down and burns the back of my hand and knuckles.

Without seeing it I am more inclined to suspect an ammo or chamber issue. If I had any money I would happily come to NJ to check it out. I haven't had a decent pizza or cheesesteak since I left.

    Re: Bersa thunder uc9 issues

Well its kinda hard to explain. When i look in the chamber the spent shell is still in the pipe but the new round tries to load and gets hung up. I need to remove the mag then rack the slide back for it to drop out.
Thanks for the offer of coming up. Times are tough enough then to waste the fuel. But then again a Philly cheese steak is worth it alone.
