    PDX1 45ACP/230gr. Ammo Test With A 1911

Here's another one of my many ammo tests with the Winchester PDX1 in the 45ACP/230 grain caliber. The ammo was fired from a distance of 8 feet against 4 layers of denim and water jugs using the S.A. R.O. 1911.

    1st & 2nd jug

The bullet was discovered in the 4th jug.

How large was it (expansion)? Gauging by the orange dot, it looks to be the size of a nickel
Thanks for another nice review Fly! I may have to consider these rounds as well.

Looks good! Isn't the PDX supposed to be well bonded to eliminate jacket separation going through glass and walls? Your bullet looks like 100% weight retention.

Hmmm. It failed to expand when you did the test using a UC45. Think it was the additional 1.4" barrel length?

I'm carrying the PDX1 in the Amigo because of the fact it more closely mimics a RN FMJ and reliably chambers. How do you think it will do in the 3.5" bbl of the Amigo?

SC Dave got a box of PDX1 from Mason in the "pile o booty" at the last meet! I picked a box the other day. Thanks for the fine ammo test and pics to boot FLY!

Well it will work or it won't If doesn't you still have a flat nose 230 gr slug That still gonna hurt.
My self I still like the DPX 185+P for short barrels But thats me.

    Re: PDX1 45ACP/230gr. Ammo Test With A 1911

    Thanks All

The Old Glory on my flag pole is needing a change and I had a new replacement but before I did that I decided to use it for a photo op.

Here you go TuxAir. The expended bullet over a nickle:

Pondy, I'm still looking for a cheap car/truck door. I missed the chance on a $25 ford truck door several months ago. One will come up again

Glad you noticed that Mitch on the 45 UC demo with the same ammo. It passed through all those jugs. But like M.T. stated above I hate to be at the receiving end of a 45ACP bullet, opened or closed... Could be the extra barrel length was needed for this ammo to expand. Most JHP ammo mfgs. do use a standard 5" barrel.

Bill, I'm wondering the same with the 3.5". Looking over my tests, does the rifling come into play? Polygonal has been know to increase the speed of the bullet than the regular rifling (please chime in folks if this is or isn't right).

JONESN & I discussed the subject of conventional rifling last week and tonight. I noticed my barrel when cleaning one night had deep channels/groves. And since this was my 1st ammo test with a 1911, it clearly showed those groves of rifling on the spent bullet. Much deeper than I've seen where as the polygonal had wider impressions on it's rifling.

I wonder if they didn't change the bullet a little bit. On the most recent test, the there's a good bit of lead on the petals. The UC.45 test doesn't appear to have any lead on the petals.
