Yesterday started off good with me finding a Dollar Bill laying on the corner of my property as I was walking my Cocker Spaniel. Later in the day, I received a phone call from my Aunt, and she wanted me to have my Uncles Rifle that he used when we went to the range back in November of 2010. I was thrilled and ran out the door to go and pick it up. When he was alive he talked about putting a scope on it, and that is what I'm gonna do. This is a Sears, JC Higgins Model 103.229 (Marlin 81DL) is like brand spank'n new with just a few scratches on the wooden stock from him going over barbed wire with it to go rabbit hunting back in the late 50's. He kept this thing under his bed for more than 50 years. We pulled it out, we looked it over, and gave it a good cleaning. Still had some cosmoline on it, and once prettied up, she shot just fine. Heavy I must say, due to the stock, but for something that old, the barrel and blueing was in great shape. I guess I join the .22 rifle club now, and will have some inexpensive trips to the range.
