    Mossberg 500's Safety

I do some part time gunsmithing for friends. I am now working on the 3rd Mossberg 500 that lost its safety button.
If your not familiar with this issue. The 500’s safety button is plastic and likes to snap in half. When this happens the detent ball and spring pop out of the top.
The repair is simple and Brownells has a machined aluminum replacement button available along with all the little parts that go flying out.
BTW, if this happens to you DO NOT LOSE THE SAFETY BLOCK. This is the part that engages the trigger in the receiver. Mossberg will only sell this component to FFL holders.

Thanks for the info. The only issue I have had with mine it a very stiff safety... It made for a sore thumb breaking it in.

    that is all

Would you have any idea why this is so?
Brownell's does not seem to have a restriction on safety block shipping. (If I read correctly)

I just looked at the Brownells web site and your right. They no longer have a shipping restriction listed on it. The reason for the restriction was, the part must be fitted to the action to have it work properly.

    Thanks!

Of course, how stupid of me, reducing liability.

Thanks for the input! Mine hasn't broke yet, but it's good to know I can get a metal part when I need it!

Thy were all way that way. Back in the 60's I would make them up out of brass. It's good to see some one is making good parts fore Mossberg owner's

The safety is in the center, near the top, easily accessible to a right or left hand thumb
